## Rounding

Rounding is easy to do with this rhyme:

4 or less let it rest (the number stays)

5 or more let it soar (the number goes up)

Here are some examples:

1. 5,3

The number in the ten thousands place is 7.

Look at the number to the right of the 7.... we see the number 2.

The number 2 is smaller than 4 (4 or less let it rest), so the number will stay.

Keep the number 7.

So our answer looks like this: 5,370,000

2. 2,35

The number in the thousands is 7.

Look at the number to the right of the 7 ... we see the number 9.

The number 9 is greater than 5 (5 or more let it soar), so the number will go up.

The number 7 now changed to 8.

So our answer looks like this: 2,358,000

4 or less let it rest (the number stays)

5 or more let it soar (the number goes up)

Here are some examples:

1. 5,3

**2,145 ..... Round to the nearest ten thousands**__7__The number in the ten thousands place is 7.

Look at the number to the right of the 7.... we see the number 2.

The number 2 is smaller than 4 (4 or less let it rest), so the number will stay.

So our answer looks like this: 5,370,000

2. 2,35

**,914 ..... Round to the nearest thousands**__7__The number in the thousands is 7.

Look at the number to the right of the 7 ... we see the number 9.

The number 9 is greater than 5 (5 or more let it soar), so the number will go up.

The number 7 now changed to 8.

So our answer looks like this: 2,358,000

## Compatible Numbers
